Studying classical literature as set for them by their schools, is easier to learn from when you don't have to decipher the language by reading it. Everyone loves stories and this makes study a pleasure instead of a chore.

The older population of ' baby boomers' are now retiring and many of them have eysight problems. Macular Degeneration, cataracts all cause loss of sight. Many of these people have been avid readers most of their lives so the loss of eyesight is a distinct hinderance to them. These people are also technically aware and familiar with technology so having easy-access to audio books allows them to continue enjoying the 'reading' experience.

3) Time:

Multi-tasking is an essential in todays busy lifestyle. All of us lead such busy lives and yet we all have those places where we can make better use of time. Some of these times are waiting in traffic jams, waiting at Airports, Train and Bus stations. Listening to an Audio Book allows us to learn or be entertained when we are forced to wait. Multi-tasking by listening to a story with your family when doing household chores becomes a shared family experience. 

4) More environmentally friendly:

Today more people are environmentally aware than ever before. Books that are bound are printed on paper which means tree's have been cut down to service this need. It is more environmentally friendly to disturb a few electrons than to cut down our trees. And people are becoming aware of how they use resources and want to improve the ways in which resources are used.

5) Cost:

It costs less to produce an Audio Book than it does to print a book. The cost to download an audio book off the Internet is substantially less than it is to buy a 'normal' book  from a physical bookstore.  Costs will always be a factor in the family budget.
